Murder
What happens when the last Bystander in Murder finally scrapes together five pieces of loot and turns them into a gun? For a few seconds, nothing, because everyone else in the round has to decide in real time whether the person holding it just became the Sheriff or is actually the Murderer bluffing with a fresh disguise.

| Core Weapon | Knife for the Murderer, crafted gun for an armed Bystander |

Loot Crafting and the Sheriff’s Gun in Murder
Every round of the game drops loot scattered across the map, and Bystanders spend the match picking it up in the open, which is exactly the moment a Murderer usually strikes. Crafting a working gun takes 5 pieces of loot, and whoever manages it becomes the Sheriff for the rest of the round, the only Bystander able to fight back instead of just running.
Reaching that fifth piece rarely happens quietly, since other Bystanders notice who keeps darting between loot spawns.
Once the gun exists, everyone starts watching that one player’s aim instead of the crowd, which shifts the round from hiding to reading a single person’s behavior.
- Bystanders spread out to collect loot without walking in a group, since bunching up gives the Murderer an easy multi-kill angle.
- Whoever reaches 5 pieces first has to decide whether to announce it or stay quiet and wait for the Murderer to expose themselves.
- The Murderer has to decide whether to rush that armed Bystander immediately or wait for a cleaner opening.
Disguise Tricks the Murderer Uses to Blend In
The Murderer only needs one piece of loot to disguise as a dead player, one of the more unsettling tricks in the whole game once it’s been used against you. A body drops, the killer grabs its loot, and suddenly there’s a Bystander near the corpse who looks completely normal on a second glance.
New players rarely check twice, and that’s the mistake experienced Murderers count on every round.
Players who main Murderer talk about disguise timing the way other games talk about positioning, because using it too early wastes the illusion and using it too late means someone already saw the kill happen.
Round Timing and Coin Rewards in Murder
Each round runs on a timer, and if the Murderer hasn’t finished off every Bystander before it expires, the Bystanders win by default, which keeps stalling from being a viable strategy for either side. Coins earned from loot pickups and kills carry over between rounds, rewarding Bystanders who actively search the map and Murderers who commit to aggressive kills instead of hiding until the clock runs out.
That coin system is debated in the community, since cautious Bystanders tend to earn far less than the ones who take real risks chasing loot in the open.
By the time a lobby reaches its third or fourth round, most players have settled into a role preference, and you can usually tell within the first ten seconds whether someone is a Sheriff-type who rushes loot or a Bystander who just tries to survive near a crowd.
Reading Player Behavior Before the First Kill
Good Murderer play in Murder is less about the knife and more about watching movement, since a Bystander who suddenly changes direction or stops picking up loot is often reacting to something they saw. Bystanders clustering near doorways without collecting anything are usually ones who already suspect someone.
The knife can be thrown as well as used in melee, and that range option separates players who just win close fights from ones who end a round from across a room.
Players who treat the knife purely as melee tend to lose chases against a Bystander sprinting for a corner, while players comfortable throwing it early close out rounds faster.
- How do you become the Sheriff in Murder? Any Bystander who collects 5 pieces of loot can craft a gun on the spot, instantly becoming the only armed Bystander able to shoot back at the Murderer for the rest of the round.
- Can the Murderer disguise as someone else in Murder? Yes, using just 1 piece of loot taken from a body, the Murderer can appear as a dead Bystander, which is a common way skilled players stay hidden after an early kill.
- What happens if the round timer runs out before the Murderer wins? The remaining Bystanders win automatically once the clock hits zero, which discourages the Murderer from hiding passively and pushes them toward committing to kills earlier in the round.
Strip away the coins and the cosmetics and Murder still comes down to the same nerve-wracking loop it always has: a knife somewhere in the crowd, a gun five loot pieces away, and a round timer that never lets anyone just wait it out.
