Best Hiding Spots

Every Meccha Chameleon player eventually asks the same question: where should I hide? The honest answer is that there is no single magic spot, because good Hunters learn the famous ones quickly and some maps now randomise their furniture. What does exist is a set of spots and spot types that work again and again, map after map. This guide collects the best-known hiding places on the official maps and explains why they work, so you can use them and also find your own.

What Makes a Great Hiding Spot

  • A background you can copy quickly. One or two main colours beat a complex pattern.
  • An unusual height. Hunters scan at eye level, so very low and very high spots survive longer.
  • Surrounding clutter. Objects around you break your outline and give Hunters too much to check.
  • A limited view. If Hunters can only see you from one angle, you only need to paint one side well.
  • Distance from the Hunter spawn. The first rooms Hunters reach get the most attention.

Hide-and-Seek Mansion

The Mansion is the richest map for hiding ideas. Keep in mind that its furniture and other elements are randomised, so specific objects may move between rounds.

  • Library shelves. Crouch among the books and paint yourself in blocks that match the book spines. A low, compact shape disappears among real books.
  • Ceiling above the pillars in the main room. Cling to the ceiling next to a pillar. It is an advanced spot that needs careful colours, but Hunters rarely look up.
  • On top of the pillars. An easier high spot than the ceiling. You are out of the natural line of sight, although a thorough Hunter will check eventually.
  • Horse statue. Paint yourself to match the statue’s surface and tuck into it. Many Hunters walk right past.
  • Kitchen. Players have hidden disguised as food, such as a hunk of meat among the kitchen items.
  • Balloon banner. The decorations on the back wall of the main hall hide colourful painters surprisingly well.

Indoor Country

  • Mud on the ground. Lie flat and paint yourself the colour of the mud. You become part of the floor.
  • Animal disguises. Some players paint themselves as farm animals, such as a cow, and stand among the matching props.
  • Hay and crates. Warm, simple colours make these areas forgiving for beginners.

Sewer

  • Ceiling behind a pipe in the darkest section. One of the strongest spots on the map. Darkness hides small paint mistakes, and the pipe covers part of your body.
  • Graffiti walls. The map has two graffiti sections, and both work. Paint yourself as part of the graffiti and cling to the wall.
  • Dark corners and recesses. Use deep, dark tones and stay out of the lit areas.

Backrooms

  • Under the pile of chairs. The clutter breaks your outline completely.
  • The rug under the table. Match the pattern of the bunched-up rug and lie flat.
  • The bottle wall. Players have hidden on top of the bottle caps on the wall of bottles.
  • Stacked furniture. Hug the side of any piece of furniture in the big stack.
  • Top of the exit sign. A high, unexpected spot that many Hunters never check.

Avoid the plain yellow walls here unless your colours are spot on. Their uniform colour makes every mismatch obvious.

Penguin Hotel

  • Among the decorations. Balloons, penguin props and patterned wallpaper give you plenty of shapes to copy.
  • Side rooms and corridors. The busy lobby draws Hunters first; quieter bedrooms and narrow hallways are often searched later.
  • Watch the upper level. The second floor overlooks the lobby, so spots visible from above are riskier than they look.

Sugarland and Osaka

Sugarland rewards bold colour. Hide among candy piles and gingerbread walls using clean, saturated blocks of colour; muddy mixes stand out on this map. Osaka is small and tight, so spread out from other Hiders. Shop fronts, overhead signs and stacked clutter in corners offer the best cover.

Spot Types That Work on Almost Any Map

Spot type Why it works Risk
Ceilings and high ledges Out of the Hunter’s natural view Bad colours are very visible against bright ceilings
Floors and rugs Low profile, simple colours Hunters who look down will find you
Clutter piles Your outline disappears among objects Hunters who inspect every pile
Rows of similar objects You become one more item in the row “One object too many” can give you away
Dark areas Shadows hide mistakes Careful Hunters check every dark corner

Keep Your Spots Fresh

Famous spots have a short life. As soon as a spot appears in popular clips, Hunters start checking it. Use the spots in this guide as a starting point, then look for similar places nearby: another shelf, another pillar, another dark corner. And after every major update, test your favourites again, because maps get reworked and randomised elements change what is available.
