Body Sizes: Cube, Plump and Petit
Every Hider in Meccha Chameleon starts with the same plain white figure, but that figure does not have to stay the same size or shape. Over the summer of 2026 the developer added several alternative body types: Cube, Plump and Petit Chameleon. Each one changes what spots you can use, how your paint reads from a distance and how Hunters have to search. This guide explains every body type, when to use it and why hosts need to switch them on first.
All Body Types at a Glance
| Body type | Added | Shape | Best used for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Default | Launch | Normal white chameleon | All-round hiding |
| Cube | Around update 1.9.0 (June) | Square, box-like body | Crates, boxes, blocky scenery |
| Plump | July | Larger and rounder than normal | Soft, bulky objects |
| Petit Chameleon | Update 4.0.0 (August 20) | Half the normal size (x0.5) | Tight gaps and small objects |
The Host Decides
Alternative body types are gated behind host settings. Petit Chameleon, for example, can only be used if the host allows it, and the other options follow the same approach of being toggled per server rather than being forced on everyone. This is why you may see them constantly in one lobby and never in another. If you want to try them, host a private game and enable them yourself.
Default Body
The standard figure is the one the game was designed around. Its human-like shape is its main weakness, which is why poses matter so much: curling up, lying flat or clinging to a surface removes the outline that Hunters look for. Master painting and posing with the default body first; everything else builds on it.
Cube
The Cube turns you into a square block. That sounds like a joke, but on the right map it is extremely strong. Many man-made environments are full of boxes, crates, cabinets, blocks and tiles, and a painted cube fits among them far more naturally than a human shape does.
- Hide among boxes, crates and stacked furniture.
- Line up your edges with the scenery; a cube that is slightly rotated looks wrong.
- Paint the faces separately, with slightly different light on each side, just like a real box.
Plump
Plump makes your chameleon bigger and rounder. A larger body is harder to hide in narrow spaces and gives Hunters a bigger target, but it also matches soft, bulky objects such as cushions, sacks, round decorations and heavy furniture. Plump is a good choice when the map’s cover is large rather than detailed.
- Look for big, round or soft shapes to imitate.
- Avoid tight corners where your size will stick out.
- Take extra care with paint, because more surface is visible.
Petit Chameleon
Added in update 4.0.0, Petit Chameleon is half the size of the normal body. It fits into gaps that were impossible before and can imitate small objects like books, bottles or decorations. It is the most powerful body type for skilled Hiders, which is exactly why many hosts keep it switched off in public games.
There is a trade-off. A smaller body means a smaller canvas, and fine details are harder to get right. From a distance, small paint mistakes can also be harder to judge. Petit rewards precise painters and punishes sloppy ones.
- Use it to hide on shelves, among small props and in narrow gaps.
- Switch to a small brush earlier than usual.
- Choose objects of a similar size; a tiny chameleon on a large empty wall is still visible.
Combining Body Types With Poses and Clones
Body type, pose and paint work together. A Cube does not need a curled pose to lose its human outline, while Petit combined with a clinging pose can disappear into spots Hunters would never think to check. Clones, which every Hider can create since update 2.0.0, add another layer: up to two decoys can distract Hunters, though if a Hunter destroys one of your clones, you are eliminated too.
Tips for Hosts
- New players: keep only the default body, so everyone learns the basics on equal terms.
- Mixed groups: allow Cube and Plump; they are fun and not overpowering.
- Experienced groups: enable Petit Chameleon for a real challenge, and consider giving Hunters a bit more ammo to compensate.
Tips for Hunters
- Check the lobby settings to know which body types you are hunting.
- In Cube lobbies, look for boxes that are slightly misaligned or lit differently from their neighbours.
- In Petit lobbies, search shelves and small props closely; one object too many is the classic giveaway.
- In Plump lobbies, pay attention to large soft shapes that were not there before.
